UCMJ Article 108 - Destruction of Government Property
UCMJ Article 108 - Destruction of Government PropertyUCMJ Article 108 - Destruction of Government PropertyArticles 77 through 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), also known as the Punitive Articles, outline acts that are punishable in the U.S. Military. Article 108 deals with the destruction of government property, and the text reads Any person subject to this chapter who, without proper authority- sells or otherwise disposes ofwillfully or through neglect damages, destroys, or loses orwillfully or through neglect suffers to be lost, damaged, destroyed, sold, or wrongfully disposed of, any military property of the United States shall be punished as a court-martial may direct. Elements 1.Selling or otherwise disposing of military property. That the accused sold or otherwise disposed of certain property (which welches a firearm or explosive)That the sale or disposition was without proper authorityThat the property was military property of the United States, andThat the property was of a certain value. 2.Damaging, destroying, or losing military property. That the accused, without proper authority, damaged or destroyed certain property in a certain way, or lost certain propertyThat the property was military property of the United StatesThat the damage, destruction, or loss was willfully caused by the accused or was the result of neglect by the accused andThat the property was of a certain value or the damage was of a certain amount. 3.Suffering military property to be lost, damaged, destroyed, sold, or wrongfully disposed of. That certain property (which was a firearm or explosive) was lost, damaged, destroyed, sold, or wrongfully disposed ofThat the property was military property of the United StatesThat the loss, damage, destruction, sale, or wrongful disposition was suffered by the accused, without proper authority, through a certain omission of duty by the accusedThat the omission was willful or negligent andThat the property was of a certai n value or the damage was of a certain amount. Explanation 1.Military property. Military property is all property, real or personal, owned, held, or used by one of the armed forces of the United States. It is immaterial whether the property sold, disposed of, destroyed, lost, or damaged had been issued to the accused, to someone else, or even issued at all. If it is proved by either direct or circumstantial evidence that items of individual issue were issued to the accused, it may be inferred, depending on all the evidence, that the damage, destruction, or loss proved was due to the neglect of the accused. Retail merchandise of service exchange stores is not military property under this article. 2.Suffering military property to be lost, damaged, destroyed, sold, or wrongfully disposed of. To suffer means to allow or permit. The willful or negligent sufferance specified by this article includes deliberate violation or intentional disregard of some specific law, regulation, or buc hung reckless or unwarranted personal use of the property causing or allowing it to remain exposed to the weather, insecurely housed, or not guarded permitting it to be consumed, wasted, or injured by other persons or loaning it to a person, known to be irresponsible, by whom it is damaged. 3.Value and damage. In the case of loss, destruction, sale, or wrongful disposition, the value of the property controls the maximum punishment which may be adjudged. In the case of damage, the amount of damage controls. As a general rule, the amount of damage is the estimated or actual cost of repair by the government agency normally employed in such work, or the cost of replacement, as shown by government price lists or otherwise, whichever is less. How a 1-minute action changed my life completely
How a 1-minute action changed my life completelyHow a 1-minute action changed my life completelyThe ticket to happiness and results is simple keep a gratitude journal. You can take advantage of this extraordinary success-producing path. You need only the ability to write and think.According to Shawn Achor, author of The Happiness Advantage (he spent over a decade in academic institutions studying this subject and conducting research), this activity is a foolproof method of rewiring your brain so your thoughts reflect a positive outlook. When the brain is positive every possible outcome we know how to test for raises dramatically. - Shawn AchorGiving Thanks Transformed Me CompletelyIve been cultivating gratitude for over five years. I attest to the genuineness of Achors findings. Every one of my actions or activities that can be measured has shown dramatic improvement.Over this period I doubled my reading speed I beat mora than 180 personal fitness records I welches sick only twice I g ot a better job and I obtained three professional certificatesI learned new skills I started a new career on the side I published 15 books my income doubled.I also overcame my shyness and now have new friends all over the world. Not badBut that is not all. Some aspects of life arent measurable, yet we certainly know when improvement happens. Since I began the discipline of keeping gratitude journals, my self-confidence, self-esteem, self-discipline, self-efficacy and resilience have noticeably increased or improved.Reflecting on my experience, I speculate that every action we take will have observably better results when our minds are positively focused, we just dont have methods to prove this yet.The Pareto Principle in Cultivating GratitudePareto uncovered a ratio that appears in nature, and also in human endeavor 80% of output consistently comes from 20% of input. High achievers embrace this they look for the activities that produce the fruchtwein results, and concentrate on those. In gratitude journaling, one simple, small piece of effort produces 80% of possible resultsTurn up and write your gratitude journal consistently.Yes, there are some journaling best practices, but you can expend a lot more effort and only get an additional 20% on the results ledger. I keep things simple - and I dont follow most of the best practices below. But I do show up every day and keep my gratitude journals. The 200,000 people who read my Quora answer were excited. Expressing gratitude is such an easy fix for a stagnant life it can facilitate drastic improvement. However, many of my readers asked questions that indicated their focus was on unnecessary details or trivia.Whats the best way to do it? Does it make a difference if I type or write by hand? Should I write in a bullet-point manner or elaborate my reasons for being grateful? These readers had missed the point. As a result, many didnt even get started. However, you may also have questions like ansicht, so I will provide M ichals Notes for the common distractions.I want you to start, and get resultsHandwriting or typing?Scribbling wins.In 2016 I read How Your Memory Works by Sia Mojaher. This book is packed with scientific references, but my main takeaway was that a human mind remembers better when there are more associations it can attach to a memory. This is why lectures (most of the time) will anchor more concepts in your mind than dry textbooks. Youll remember not only the data, but other things like the professors tone of voice, a funny anecdote he said about discovering the specific formula, the weird face he made and the smell of a classroom. The same goes with writing by hand. It provides more associations for your mind than you get by typing. This has been proven by joint research led by French and American scientists. They mathematically and computationally demonstrated that there is a difference in how the brain controls the bodys slightest action.Writing by hand imprints a stronger signal in the web of associations that comprises your memorypeople learn better when they write by hand, than when they type. Its obvious, when you know about the associating nature of human memory.Instead of attaching one keystroke to a piece of data, your mind registers multiple discrete signals that went to each of dozens of muscle movements that are needed to write a single word.If you need speed and consistent legibility, you type. But when writing a gratitude journal, you want lasting and profound impressions.Handwriting will provide them. When to write?Multiple studies have shown how the way we begin our day has profound effects on the rest of it. And many people begin their day watching or listening to news. Yet there have been plenty of studies done about the harmful effects of negative news on our mood and attitude.Research has been done on the long-term negative effects of being exposed to negativity. Other studies concluded that being positive cuts the long term risk of coronary d iseases by half (researchers studied 30 years of data). One of the most interesting studies was the one featured in Harvard Business Review stating that Individuals who watched just three minutes of negative news in the morning had a whopping 27% greater likelihood of reporting their day as unhappy six to eight hours later. The most telling effect happened to people who watched transformative stories. Watchers reported having a good day 88 percent of the time. The evidence is clear enough your entire day will be impacted by your experiences at the beginning of it. And you can choose whether this is positive or negative.I recently got a message from a new coaching client, who struggled with procrastination. One of the small tweaks I recommended was to jot down in the morning a few things he was grateful for. This is his feedback after the first dayI had a minute in the morning to think about what Im grateful for. The effect was really good and it took me by surprise. I was overfilled wi th the positive energy for the whole day. Once again, thank you for the right on-the-spot advice.Start your day by writing entries in your gratitude journal. It will make an immediate difference to your sense of wellbeing.Three new things or the same things? You can write about the same occurrences or people for as many days as your gratitude for them remains in your thoughts. But your mind is also constantly experiencing new things. Every second, about 11 MILLION sensory impulses are detected by your brain, the most sophisticated searching mechanism known to humanity.Storing information is just a tiny parte of the brains function. Filtering is what really matters, thats why every piece of data in your memory gets multiple associations attached to it. The more associations, the easier it is for your mind to reference the data. Thus, as your mind is looking for associations and reasons to attach priority to information, give it plenty Each day, find at least three new reasons youre grat eful for something in your life a scene you saw that brought a smile a friend who helped you the taste of a meal.Ask yourself what am I most grateful for today?Your mind will act like a puppy happily chasing a ball.Throw it a question it will joyfully look for new reasons why you should be grateful.Give specific reasons or bullet points?Given that the more associations a memory has, the more powerful it is, youll probably have guessed the answer to this reflecting on your reasons for gratitude will imprint gratefulness into your mind in a more effective way than a brief note that records only, say, that someone helped you.Imagine re-reading your journal in a year from now. Use a few extra words so you can recall and re-live ansicht moments when you read over your entries in the future. Thus, instead of merely Jack my car nice weather you might writeJack he helped me with a huge project, I can always count on him.My car it is old, yet still reliable Today I was again on time at the office.Nice weather constant rain over the last few days has been depressing nice to see the sun again.See? Its just a bit of additional work, but the effect is deeper. When you add reasons to your bullet points, it affects more associations. You add to your entry not just the image of the item or person you are grateful for you add your feelings, you employ other senses (the suns warmth on your skin) and you stir elder memories (how Jack helped you in the last month and a year ago). With a few additional strokes of your pen, youll make the entry much more meaningful.Be empowered Start todayWhen I discovered the immense power of gratitude, I quickly shared it with my family. My teenage son answered with a typical rebellious adolescent attitude But, I have nothing to be grateful for. Most adults are not so adamant about this point, but quite a lot of my readers were concerned about exhausting their gratitude resources.I can easily reassure everyone who is concerned about this. You wont run out. Its no more likely to happen than the worlds oxygen being used up because people are breathing it.You can be grateful for your possessions relationships weather patterns opportunities to serve or contribute to others or causes chance encounters your state of health, wealth or understanding, (and any improvement in any of those) your talents, achievements, and your progress towards goals and you can be grateful for every challenge you face and every obstacle you overcome. We are helped by many in this life, every day, directly or indirectly. Circumstances may go in our favor, misfortune might reisepass us by - or it strikes us and we recover. Youll never lack for things to be grateful about, once you open your mind to the infinite possible experiences waiting for you every single day.We have barely scratched the surface. Youll look back in a year, amazed at your pile of gratitude entries.Expressing gratitude is a joyous part of my dayI keep three gratitude journals I record thoughts about my wife, my kids and my everyday experiences. The first two are easy, almost self-explanatory. Every day I express gratitude for the members of my family, and for their attitudes, opinions, creativity and actions. But everyday experiences?A few examples will make this clearer. When reflecting on my day, I include my various awakenings and amazements about the beauty of nature. I mention people who were generous or helpful to me, good meeting outcomes, maybe an accomplishment - even if minor. I also write about my realizations of faults and failings, because when I notice these, I have the chance to change my course. Naturally, Im grateful to get opportunities to improve myself.I write my journals in the evening. I spend five to twenty minutes on my daily gratitude practice. I write entries by hand in the diaries. At least in this aspect I stick to the recommendations I have given youTo save time, I tend to bullet point my entries. I rarely elaborate on my reflections.I regularly find myself repeating the same reasons for being grateful. For example, I have been writing (articles, books, etc.) every day since the 23rd of September 2013, but almost every day I note my specific daily word count in my gratitude diary. However, among the many repeated items I scribble every day will always be at least three entries which I am recording for the first time. The stunning example of gratitudes immense powerWhen it comes to gratitude journaling, my hero is one of my friends from the Coach.me platform. Lets call her Diane (this is not her real name, but I want to protect her privacy). She also doesnt stick to the letter when it comes to the perfect way of keeping a journal. She often writes only one thing in her journal. She often elaborates on her entry, but not always. She doesnt write them by hand. She types her entries in the Coach.me application.Diane often repeats the same reason she is grateful. She frequently writes about meals in her journal. (By the way , foods are one of the most common things recurring in many gratitude journals this is my observation from going through many journals of other Coach.me users). She had been keeping her gratitude journal very diligently for about two years when a tragedy happened Her boyfriend died suddenly in a car accident. She had already been through tough times, she was divorced.I observed with disbelief how she kept her gratitude journal through that terrible time. It kept her sane. It kept her present for her son. It allowed her to find the strength for the everyday stuff when her world collapsed.Today Dianes streak is well over 1,000 days long.Progress, not perfectionYour gratitude routine doesnt have to be perfect. Recall that 80% of possible results come from how consistently you cultivate gratitude, not from how you keep a perfect gratitude journal. But if you want to maximize your gratitude, keep these points in mind-Write your entries in the journal by hand-Do it in the morning to positive ly frame your day-Elaborate on your entries think of the reasons or specifics for your gratitude-Note down at least three new thingsAnd be grateful you learned about acknowledging your gratitude. Your life transforms when you do.This article was originally published on Medium.

Facts dont change peoples minds. Heres what does.
Facts dont change peoples minds. Heres what does.Facts dont change peoples minds. Heres what does.If you had asked me this question How do you change a mind? two years ago, I would have given you a different answer. As a former scientist, I would have cautioned you to rely on objective facts and statistics. Develop a strong case for your side, back it up with hard, cold, irrefutable data, and voilaDrowning the other person with facts, I assumed, was the best way to prove that global warming is real, the war on drugs has failed, or the current business strategy adopted by your risk-averse boss with zero imagination is notlage working.Since then, Ive discovered a significant problem with this approach. It doesnt work. The mind doesnt follow the facts. Facts, as John Adams put it, are stubborn things, but our minds are even more stubborn. Doubt isnt always resolved in the face of facts for even the most enlightened among us, however credible and convincing those facts might be.As a resul t of the well-documented confirmation bias, we tend to undervalue evidence that contradicts our beliefs and overvalue evidence that confirms them. We filter out inconvenient truths and arguments on the opposing side. As a result, our opinions solidify, and it becomes increasingly harder to disrupt established patterns of thinking. We believe in alternative facts if they support our pre-existing beliefs. Aggressively mediocre corporate executives remain in office because we interpret the evidence to confirm the accuracy of our anfangsbuchstabe hiring decision. Doctors continue to preach the ills of dietary fat despite emerging research to the contrary. If you have any doubts about the power of the confirmation bias, think back to the last time you Googled a question. Did you meticulously read each link to get a broad objective picture? Or did you simply skim through the links looking for the page that confirms what you already believed was true? And lets face it, youll always find that page, especially if youre willing to click through to Page 12 on the Google search results. If facts dont work, how do you change a mind whether its your own or your neighbors?Give the mind an outWere reluctant to acknowledge mistakes. To avoid admitting we were wrong, well twist ourselves into positions that even seasoned yogis cant hold. The key is to trick the mind by giving it an excuse. Convince your own mind (or your friend) that your prior decision or prior belief was the right one given what you knew, but now that the underlying facts have changed, so should the mind. But instead of giving the mind an out, we often go for a punch to the gut. We belittle the other person (I told you so). We ostracize (Basket of deplorables). We ridicule (What an idiot).Schadenfreude might be your favorite pastime, but it has the counterproductive effect of activating the other persons defenses and solidifying their positions. The moment you belittle the mind for believing in something, youve l ost the battle. At that point, the mind will dig in rather than give in. Once youve equated someones beliefs with idiocracy, changing that persons mind will require nothing short of an admission that they are unintelligent. And thats an admission that most minds arent willing to make.Democrats in the United States are already falling into this trap. Theyre not going to win the 2020 presidential elections by convincing Donald Trump supporters that they were wrong to vote for him last November or that theyre responsible for his failures in office. Instead, as author and psychology professor Robert Cialdini explains, Democrats must offer Trump supporters a way to get out of their prior commitment while saving face Well, of course you were in a position to make that decision in November because no one knew about X.Colombians adopted a similar strategy in the 1950s when the Rojas dictatorship collapsed. As I explain in my forthcoming book, although the Colombian military was complicit in the abuses of the Rojas regime, civilians deftly avoided pointing any fingers at the military. Instead, they managed to march the military back to the barracks with its dignity intact. They recognized that they would need the militarys cooperation both during the transition process and in its aftermath. So they offered an alternative narrative for public consumption that uncoupled the armed forces from the Rojas regime. In this narrative, which the military leaders found much easier to swallow, it was the presidential family and a few corrupt civilians close to Rojas - not military officers - who were responsible for the regimes excesses. Were they to take a different approach, a military dictatorship- not democracy- may have resulted.Your beliefs are not you.In my early years in academia, I would tend to get deckung when someone challenged one of my arguments during a presentation. My heart rate would skyrocket, I would tense up, and my answer would reflect the disdain with whic h I viewed the antagonistic question (and the questioner).I know Im not alone here. We all tend to identify with our beliefs and arguments. This is my business. This is my article. This is my idea. But heres the problem. When your beliefs are entwined with your identity, changing your mind means changing your identity. Thats a really hard sell.A possible solution, and one that Ive adopted in my own life, is to put a healthy separation between you and the products of you. I changed my vocabulary to reflect this mental shift. At conferences, instead of saying, In this paper, I argue , I began to say This paper argues This subtle verbal tweak tricked my mind into thinking that my arguments and me were not one and the same. Obviously, I was the one who came up with these arguments, but once they were out of my body, they took a life of their own. They became separate, abstract objects that I could view with some objectivity. It was no longer personal. It was simply a hypothesis proven wrong .Build up your empathy musclePlaying Al Gores Inconvenient Truth on repeat to a room of motown auto workers wont change their mind on global warming if theyre convinced your agenda will put them out of a job.Humans operate on different frequencies. If someone disagrees with you, its not because theyre wrong, and youre right. Its because they believe something that you dont believe. The challenge is to figure out what that thing is and adjust your frequency. If employment is the primary concern of the Detroit auto worker, showing him images of endangered penguins (as adorable as they may be) or Antarcticas melting glaciers will get you nowhere. Instead, show him how renewable energy will provide job security to his grandchildren. Now, youve got his attention.Get out of your echo chamber. We live in a perpetual echo chamber. We friend people like us on Facebook. We follow people like us on Twitter. We read the news outlets that are on the same political frequency as us.This means our op inions arent being stress tested nearly as frequently as they should.Make a point to befriend people who disagree with you. Expose yourself to environments where your opinions can be challenged, as uncomfortable and awkward as that might be.Marc Andreessen has a saying that I love Strong beliefs, loosely held. Strongly believe in an idea, but be willing to change your opinion if the facts show otherwise.Ask yourself, What fact would change one of my strongly held opinions? If the answer is no fact would change my opinion, youre in trouble. A person who is unwilling to change his or her mind even with an underlying change in the facts is, by definition, a fundamentalist. In the end, it takes courage and determination to see the truth instead of the convenient. But its well worth the effort.Ozan Varol is a rocket scientist turned law professor and bestselling author.Click hereto download a free copy of his e-book, The Contrarian Handbook 8 Principles for Innovating Your Thinking. New Process Embeds Coded Data on 3D-Printed Parts
New Process Embeds Coded Data on 3D-Printed Parts New Process Embeds Coded Data on 3D-Printed Parts New Process Embeds Coded Data on 3D-Printed PartsManufacturers are always looking for ways to reduce costs and stay compliant. This includes securing the chain of custody of partes and products they make and reducing counterfeit products. This is especially true for 3D-printed parts, for which realistic knock-offs are easily made. For medical devices, this is where unique device identification (UDI) is particularly important.Printing UDI codes or QR codes on a part or product typically requires an extra step, after the part or product has been manufactured. This slows down the production process and adds extra time and cost. Now, Rize, a Boston, U.S.-based, next-generation additive manufacturing company, has developed a method that embeds identifying information on a product during the 3D-manufacturing process. Whats more, it goes beyond simple identification for tracking to include cod es that are loaded with all the relevant plan and engineering data for that part.We have now created a digital thread that connects the entwurf/model with the final physical part, says Julie Reece, vice president of marketing for Rize. This capability will accelerate Industry 4.0 technologies like blockchain and augmented reality/virtual reality applications, improving compliance, authenticity, and traceability. For You 4D Printing Advances Additive ManufacturingRize utilizes its augmented polymer deposition (APD) technologya combination of fused deposition modeling (FDM) and piezo jetting into a single printerto print end-use parts. A proprietary medical-and-engineering-grade thermoplastic compound is simultaneously extruded with the jetting of functional inks, at the voxel (3D pixel) scale, to vary material properties of the thermoplastic during deposition, creating new design possibilities for engineers. Voxel-level control provides the resolution needed to embed complex QR codes on products, including transferring design, assembly, and performance specification data into the part, creating what Rize calls digitally augmented parts. This re-establishes the link between the finished product and the XML-based 3MF file. A common smartphone app can scan the QR code on the part and instantly display the corresponding digital information online, Reece says. For example, an engineer can store all of a parts information digitally and maintain digital augmentation of the part throughout its lifecycle. This will provide all the data an assembly technician or machinist needs to properly install or troubleshoot the part.Smartphones can read the printed QR codes and instantly bring up important identifying informationThe QR or bar code is imported into the slicer, sized, and placed on the part. The part is then sent to the printer where it is constructed, layer by layer. As the part is being built, the marking ink needed for the QR code is distributed at the voxel level to produce the QR code. As soon as the part is complete, the QR code can be scanned with a smartphone to instantly bring up the digital information. This process builds trust into the part, Reece says. The ink cannot be rubbed or worn off. It is secure, so this capability creates an immutable digital connection between the physical part and its digital twin for traceability and compliance. If a very minor change has been made to the design that cannot be discerned visually, you just scan the part with your smartphone and see all the data related to design changes. Our process for the development of new products generally requires numerous iterations to get the part features just right, says David Perron, group manager at CONMED, a medical device manufacturer, in a recent article on Newequipment.com. The changes are not always obvious, particularly when were looking at dozens of iterations. The QR code will help us easily identify iterations and show the flow of the design thought pro cess. For the first time, 3D printing can support blockchain technologies and ensure that intellectual property capture is completely secure and tamper-proof. Embedded QR codes will also streamline and speed up product design. When two engineers are working on different components, for example, such as a front and back end, they might not be working at the same pace, Reece says. Because the digital thread remains in the QR code, the engineer ready to print can do so, put on smart glasses that read the QR code that will overlay the side that only exits digitally to render the complete assembly. This lets the team know if the designs match and will fit together, and any errors can be caught early. The digitally augmented parts also allow a design team to quickly switch from physical to virtual reality. The QR code can directly link to the CAD file so the designer can virtually manipulate the digital twin, if needed. This streamlines the process and ensures the 3D model being changed is the right version, since each new version is assigned its own unique code. The Rize process is also an effective way to remove any products from the market that are non-compliant due to design changes, piracy, counterfeiting, or obsolescenceall of which damage the customer experience and result in rework, recalls, and loss of brand value.Mark Crawford is an independent writer.Read MorePrints Indelible MarkUltrasound Patch Monitors Critical Components3D Printing a Future of New Metal Actuators For Further DiscussionThis process builds trust into the part. 10 lessons I learned from making many mistakes in my 20s
10 lessons I learned from making many mistakes in my 20s10 lessons I learned from making many mistakes in my 20sOne of the biggest mistakes we make is that we assume we always learn from our mistakes. Ive met enough people who learned little from their own stupidity. We all know these people. In fact, we probablyarethese people. You know why? Its damned hard to learn from your mistakes. Ive never met someone who actually enjoyed failing.Lets be honest, no one likes to make mistakes, and lose their time, energy, or money. So thats why we need to make aneffortto learn from the things that we wish we didnt do. The father of functional philosophy andpragmatist philosophy, John Dewey, made that point obviousThe partie who really thinks learns quite as much from his failures as from his successes.Learning from your mistakes does not happen automatically - it requires thinking and reflection. So heres my reflection on the lessons I learned from the mistakes I made in my twenties. Here we go .1. Dont Think You Know EverythingTheres a word for people who think they know everything Idiot. I meet idiots all the time. And the reason I recognize them is because I used to be one.Every time you dont listen to people smarter than you, when you want to sound smart, or think you know it all- youre being an idiot. Its time to move your ego to the side and understand that life is not about impressing others. Its about fulfillment, collaboration, and the common good. If you want to achieve those things, you need to be humble. But theres good news for people who get annoyed by idiots If they dont decide to become humble, life willmakethem humble at some point.2. Never Blame People For Your UnhappinessAs a child, youre taken care of by others. That may be your parents, siblings, family members, foster parents, or any other person who takes responsibility. Hence, you assume that someone is responsible for you.But thats not true. When you grow up,youare responsible for you. So never look at others when youre unhappy- its not fair to the people in your life. Instead, accept your unhappiness, and thendosomething about it.3. Stop Wasting Time On LosersTheres a big chance the people in your environment dont strive for the same things as you. At some point in my twenties, I was surrounded by people who dropped out of college, were doing drugs, and went out every week. But it doesnt have to be that obvious. Many people live a timid life. People who dont want anything from life and who spend their time watching tv.Dont give your time to those people. The cost is high. You might become one of them.4. Love Is notlage What You ThinkMost of us have this twisted idea about life. I want her to treat me this and this way. Who are you to claim such a thing? And if the other doesnt live up to our expectations, we flip out or leave.Thats called conditional love. Strive for the opposite. Im still learning this. Its difficult to let go of your expectations about love. But you have to. Otherwise, youll never be happy in your relationship.5. You Actually Dont Have A Lot Of TimeWhen youre young, you think you have an endless sea of time. You can do anything you want. And then you blink, and youre celebrating your thirtieth birthday. Its a matter of simple math. Just ask yourself these questionsHow much time am I wasting on things that give me zero fulfillment?Do I like my job?Do I like the people in my life? The answers to these questions will give you clarity about how well youre spending your time.6. Youre Probably Not As Awesome As You ThinkTheres always someone better looking, cooler, smarter, stronger, or you personenname it, than you.Always.So stop thinking youre awesome. Compared to what? Because that statement implies youre comparing yourself to others. Just be yourself and dont compare yourself to others.7. Learning Never StopsLook, when you stop learning and developing yourself youre dead. Im not kidding. When I got out of college, I stopped learning. Guess what? I felt stuck after two years.Push yourself to learn something every day.If youre not getting better, youre getting worse.8. Doing Hard Things Gives You mora PleasureI always ran away from hard things. Improving yourself, working out, saving money, building a business, helping others, investing time in your relationship- its all hard when you do it right. But doing those hard things will have more return on your life, time, energy, and money. When you do something that requires a lot of effort, you feel good about it. When youre tired and still go to the gym for a hard work out, you feel a sense of accomplishment and pride thats unrivaled. Its the same with your career. If youre not doing hard things, dont be surprised if you dont feel alive.9. Being Alone Will Make You More At PeaceIts a dangerous sign if you can never be alone. I come from a very tightknit family, and I always have had close friends. But I realized that I needed to be alone to grow. So I went on abroad trips by myself. But that wasnt enough. I decided to move to London. When youre alone, you have time to know who you are. When youre always with others, youre just a product of the other people in your life. Sometimes you need to distance yourself from others, it will make you a better person.10. Small Decisions Lead To Big OutcomesAnother drink wouldnt hurt, right? Sleeping in today is not bad, right? No one cares if I skip my workout today, right? I can easily spend $1500 on a new iPhone, right? The answer is no, no, no, no, and NO to every other small decision youthinkhas no impact on your life. The truth is that your life is the result of your small decisions. You are what you do every day. Surprisingly, thats actually really good news. That means you can turn your life aroundtoday- simply by doing something small that has a good impact on your life. And what if you keep making mistakes? Who gives a shit? Just make sure you always learn from it.Thisarticlefirst appeared onDariusForoux.com.
